Master Rituals #1: Ansel's The Making of 40 Photographs (In-Progress)
This project explores my own positionality in relationship to the legacies of white modernism and "masters" within the history of photography. I use Ansel Adams' iconic book Examples: The Making of 40 Photographs as a starting point for a series of performances, experimental poetry, and re-photography. I continually insert my own body, my own words, and my own photographic archive over Adams' in order to re-claim, re-enact, un-make, re-dact, and re-perform The Making of 40 Photographs as my own. I am currently in the early stages of this project; when complete the series will consist of a complete altered book: 40 poems, 40-re-photographs, and 40 performances.
